An all-acoustic, all-danceable 'fandango' dance fiesta featuring various, authentic Mexican folk music styles played with original instruments and energy to boot.
In some parts of Mexico, a fandango is a fiesta where son (Mexico's regional folk music) is played and danced by everyone in town. "Fandango on 18th Street" is a new album by Chicago's premier Mexican folk music band, Sones de Mexico Ensemble. It is named after the main street that runs through Pilsen, one of Chicago's well-known Mexican neighborhoods.
The album is an all-acoustic smorgasboard of authentic Mexican music featuring dozens of unique musical instruments, infectious rhythms that anyone can dance to, and a parade of noted muscal guests including Guillermo Velasquez, Grupo Mono Blanco, David Haro, and others.
Sones de Mexico Ensemble is a talented sextet of professional musicians formed by Victor Pichardo (music director), Juan Des (producer), Rene Cardoza, Raul Fernendez, Renato Ceren, and Agusten Hermo Contreras. The group was established in 1994 to focus on the music of son (hence the name of the band). |
