JOHN ABERNATHY received a 2005 nomination for Best Male Cabaret Performer from the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) for his show "A Cock-Eyed Optimist" at Club Cafe in Boston. Originally from Tennessee and now living in Rhode Island, John has worked in theatre as an actor/singer/dancer/musician appearing as Tony in WEST SIDE STORY, Seymour in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, L.M. in PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES, and in musical revues of such composers as George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, and Cole Porter. He toured internationally as pianist and soloist with the musical group "Up With People" including a performance with the National Symphony Orchestra in Constitution Hall. In 2004, John participated in the Second Annual Cabaret Conference at Yale University. He was recently featured in the 16th Annual New York Cabaret Convention at Frederick P. Rose Hall (Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center) in an evening dedicated to the music and lyrics of Broadway composer Jerry Herman sharing the stage with legendary performers Lee Roy Reams, Michael Feinstein, Marilyn Maye, and Mr. Herman himself.
