Progressive hip hop with ecclectic influences from world music to punk rock.
Whether the reactions have been those of praise, criticism or simple shock, for the last five years the name F.I.L.T.H.E.E. IMMIGRANTS has been raising many eyebrows and generating curiosity worldwide. Most of the intrigue has stemmed from the acronym F.I.L.T.H.E.E. that stands for " Forever In Love Thanking Highest Eternal Existence". This acronym highlights the group's spirituality as the forefront of their motivation. The word "Immigrants" represents the group's social/political forum and the struggle of any person or group working to make life better for themselves and future generations.
One of the most amazing aspects of the group has to be their uncanny ability to network and move within circles that average Hip Hop artists are not often found. This may stem from the fact that their sound has begun to merge three very important and crucial markets within the music industry, the first of those being conscious mainstream and underground Hip Hop in the fashion of artists like The Fugees, Public Enemy, and The Roots, which the group embodies with their lyrical content and overall message. The second arena the group's music has begun to gain exposure in would be the Urban Latino crossover market. Similar to artists like Ozomotli, Puya, and Carlos Santana they incorporate many live worldly sounds into their music along with concepts and ideas that are popular within the Latino community. Also, due to the group's immense energy level and highly aggressive and explosive live performances, they also find themselves with a large Rock/Alternative fan base much like groups who have dared to blur the lines between Rock and Hip Hop like Rage Against The Machine, The Beastie Boys, and Cypress Hill. The simultaneous transcending of these three markets is the main reason record labels, publications, and people in general have begun to take notice of F.I.L.T.H.E.E. IMMIGRANTS as one of the fastest rising and most exciting up-and-coming musical groups to emerge in some time.
Brought together in 1997 and bonded by their love for Hip-Hop culture and the desire to preserve it's foundation while striving to push it's boundaries, the group has set out to craft their sound into the type of music that would embody all of their diverse influences while staying true to it's Hip Hop roots. With members from Venice Beach Ca, Phoenix Az, and Harlem Ny, consolidating that diversity has not only been a somewhat tough task, but also an incredible journey that has begun to gain the group incredible amounts of recognition from not only the underground music scenes, but from main stream media and popular music scenes as well. It was this focus on diversity and artistic challenge that drew veteran rocker Tommy Lee to approach the group to pen a song for his debut solo project entitled "Methods of Mayhem". What ensued was a mosh-pit favorite entitled "Proposition Fuck You", that helped launch Tommy's project to gold status, selling upwards of 750,000 copies worldwide. The group was subsequently invited to open for Tommy and Crazy Town on their coast-to-coast tour. Performing in front of sellout crowds created an incredible buzz for the group who have since gone on to perform with Tommy Lee on many Ozzfest dates. This pushed the group into high visibility status allowing the IMMIGRANTS to share the stage with such luminaries as Dilated Peoples, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Kanye West and Big Pun. |
