Smooth jazz with romantic backing.

In late 1993, Betty Johnson decided to return to singing-30 years after retiring from her highly successful career to raise a family. Betty did not know where this decision would lead, but with characteristic faith and a sense of mission, she stepped out into the glow on New York City cabaret's lights, sang straight from her heart-and into ours.

A little over a year later, with a Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist to her credit, it is clear the Betty Johnson has resumed the extraordinary musical journey that began close to sixty years ago, with her roots in Guilford County, North Carolina.

during the 50's and early sixties Betty not only was seen regularly on TV but also headlined at such famous clubs as the Copacabana and Coconut Grove and was a hit in her regular appearances on Jack Paar's Tonight TV Show. She worked in Chicago on Don McNeil's Breakfast club for two great years and sang with Mike Douglas on NBC TV NOON Show.

In the summer, she played leading roles in regional theater all over America.

On her CD, "MY HEART SINGS," Betty has put together a selection of her own popular favorites. As Betty herself says of this collection, "Throughout my earlier career, recording companies were choosing what songs I would sing. These are the songs I wish I could have recorded all those years ago. They are the classics-songs written by the great composers of all time-Rogers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Rogers and Hart-and to me they say romance.
