Bigger and badder than its predecessor, this album features solo, duo, and trio selections from a few studio sessions, plus selected home-recorded cuts. A jazz guitar delight.
Here we go with a brand new album: Jazz Guitar Vol 2. Normally I'm not big on sequels, but had some unreleased material laying around I felt was releaseable plus some decent newer stuff, so here goes.
Jazz Guitar Vol 2 is a compilation of 3 alt takes from previous albums (Rose of Loami and Oop Bop Sh' Bang), a duo guitar session, and a trio session, plus a few of my better home-recorded things.
As well as my efforts on guitar(and bass and keyboards at times), you'll hear some of the best musicians in my area(mid-Illinois): guitarist Dave Burdick, bassists Andy Burtschi and Wayne Coniglio(Wayne is really a bass trombonist but used to double on bass, and does a beautiful solo on "Polkadots and Moonbeams" here),and drummers Rich Olson, Steve Adleman and Craig Russo. These guys can play.
The material is mostly originals, mine and one tune by LA-based trumpet player/bandleader DC Hall, but also features two standards: Polkadots and Moonbeams and Blue Skies. Some of the other material, such as "Stella by Bar Light"(which can be heard in its entirety on my website, along with Dos Guitarros) and the 2-part "Bawdy in Seoul" is obviously taken from the standard repertoire, while other tunes(Dos Guitarros=One Note Samba, Birthday Girl=All the things you are)are new melodies over standard changes, and somewhat less obvious. But it's all jazz and it's all good.
