An eclectic collection of remixes, b-sides, and rarities.
No matter what is "in" at a given moment - hair-metal, rap-metal, boy bands, dance music, whatever - there will always be scattered men and women writing songs on guitars, pianos, or computers. They'll be writing songs that mean something to them - regardless of what "demographic" it will appeal to - and without a doubt, these songs will connect with an audience. It may just be to the couple of hundred people who show up to their gigs at local clubs.
That's where Benjamin is now.
Some of the better songwriters, with a little luck, will find a label to bring them to a wider audience. That's where our kid will be pretty soon, if there's any justice in the world. "Summer's Gone" and "Dear Elizabeth," both available on Benjamin's prior releases - are timeless, and will sound as good in 20 years as they do now. Ditto for "Hollywood Arms," a hint of his upcoming material. And the Phil Collins cover? Well, if you don't like Phil, this probably won't change your mind. But, you've got to respect the kid for not being ashamed of his influences (and by the way, he's also covered the Pixies, R.E.M. and Matthew Sweet in the past). |
