Drawing from influences such as Debussy, Morton Feldman and Alberto Ginastera, Carolyn Downie's "Waves at Bathsheba" offers a collage of modern impressionistic and expressionistic solo piano music with ambient and abstract textures.

Carolyn Downie was born in 1977 and is a classical and modern pianist, composer and teacher. Recorded in 2001, "Waves at Bathsheba" offers solo piano works blending lyricism and impressionism with polytonality, expressionism and improvisation. Also including progressive and abstract textures and form, "Waves at Bathsheba" serves as a sonic exploration for the introspective and refined listener.

Composer's notes:
One of my goals as a composer and performer is to creatively construct new boundaries in order to expand the realm of musical knowledge and perception. This album aims to portray these ideals with an artful, emotive and intellectual approach to composition and piano performance.

Background information:
This music was influenced and inspired by the impressionistic concepts of Debussy as well as the rhythmic inflections, polytonality and atonality of Morton Feldman and Alberto Ginastera. Additionally, this album includes improvisational techniques which were inspired through studies of jazz and third stream composition at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. All pieces were recorded live, without the use of editing or making additional modifications to the original performances.

Excerpts from this CD have been featured online with some of the top music for yoga and meditation practice.
