A love affair with sad songs and an affinity for layers of vibraphones, organs, guitars, ukuleles, and vocals mixed together to make something so bare sound so full.
Between The Pine reaches out from a basement in Rhode Island to the captive audience of a musically starved generation. Between The Pine is the newest release from what I would call a rare phenomenon of real people that really like to make actual music. This album carries with it roots of artistic distinction ranging from originals like The Beatles to the new generation of independent greats like Sufjan Stevens and Okkervil River. Jim Diotte does a wonderful job of taking everything from homemade slide guitars and $10 radio shack mics to modified midi keyboards and combines them into coherent and inventive musical compositions. This album is a genuine answer to the question... is there any good music left to make?
