Alcibiades Jones is a fusion trio with roots in funk, jazz, and psychedelic rock.
Alcibiades Jones is a band that likes to take off. Intense, raw instrumental improvisation combine with keen song-writing to form this potent and explosive group. "Refraction Mirage," recorded live in the studio, is a great embodiment of the fantastic energy Alcibiades Jones brings to each and every performance.
Named for a Civil War General, the band has played memorable shows around the northeast, from New Jersey to New Hampshire and many points between. Austin Barney (guitar, bass), the group's co-composer, is a surprising hybrid of Slash and Grant Green, a rock guitarist with truly keen ears and funky time. Stuart Watson (bass, guitar), co-composer, is also a student of jazz and rock and draws inspiration especially from the work of Michael Henderson and Dave Holland. Alex Zanecchia is a drummer who mixes diverse break-beat rhythms with the melodic percussiveness of Billy Martin. These disparate influences combine in Alcibiades Jones to create a sound entirely unique and uniquely accessible to jazz and rock fans alike.
Alcibiades Jones has also collaborated in concert with a wide arrange of stars from the Jazz and World Music scenes. Past performing collaborators include Grammy-nominated Tibetan multi-instrumentalist Nawang Khechog, Jonathan Finlayson (Five Elements), and Dana Leong (Lionel Hampton, Firewater). By combining jazz improvisation with rock and hip-hop rhythmic textures, the group has forged an exciting and eclectic style that is winning over fans across the country. |
