Pop songs reminiscent of Stevie Wonder, Tower of Power and New Orleans Funk and Fun ....
Mingo Fishtrap's long-awaited fourth release is finally here! Their third full-length album, Yesterday, is fourteen tracks of new material that overflows with groove and feeling. These are finely crafted pop songs that draw on traditions spanning the range of American music, yet the result is not random ecclecticism. Mingo has focused their many musical influences into a unique, exciting and timeless sound.
New Orleans funk and fun is at the heart of this music, from the latin-tinged "On Our Way" to the Afro-swamp instrumental "Fred's Slacks" to the second-line intro of "Catch The Bus". Mingo's East Bay grease comes through on the horn-driven tunes like "Let The Games Begin". Hints of old school R&B in the style of Otis Redding are everywhere, but these are children of the 1980's and can't resist some house music. The vibe is irresistible: a blend of rhythm, surprise, charm and plain old-fashioned great sounds!
Mingo hails from Austin, Texas and has performed with the Neville Brothers, Sting, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Delbert McClinton,Maktub and Ozomotli.
